CPZS April Update

Dear Mailing List Subscribers! We are hard at work creating an outdoor exhibit for our tortoise, Nugget. CPZS is currently seeking donations to help fund the construction. All donations are welcome; however, the first $200 donation will secure naming rights! We are still looking for additional volunteers to help clean our building. Duties would include sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows and the exteriors of some of the enclosures. Interested in volunteering but want more hands-on experience with the animals? Then our docent programs sounds like a fit for you. Contact us for more information about either of these volunteer opportunities. We are currently in need of the following items; we appreciate any contribution you are able to make: Cleaning Supplies including bleach, industrial glass cleaner and an all-purpose cleaner Paper Shredder Outdoor Dog Kennel Gallon Jugs of Spring Water Paper Towels Copy Paper Manila File Folders HP Ink Cartridges (56 & 57) Monetary Donations of Any Amount All contributions may be dropped off at 523 Eliza Street; Houtzdale, PA or you can call us at (814) 687-4097 to make alternate arrangements. Remember, CPZS is a 100% volunteer organization and is funded primarily by individual donations. Pittsburgh Man Donates Sulcata Tortoise

Dear CPZS Mailing List Subscribers, Jeff Welding of Dravosburg, a Pittsburgh suburb, recently donated a Sulcata tortoise "Nugget" to the Central PA Zoological Society. "Nugget" is approximately 12 inches in carapace length and came with caging and accessories. CPZS would like to thank Mr. Welding for his generosity and support of the Society and our mission; we are very excited about the wonderful addition "Nugget" is going to make to our educational programs. CPZS January Update

Dear Mailing List Subscribers! Happy New Year! CPZS hopes that you had a wonderful holiday season and that 2010 will bring wonderful things for you and your family. The end of 2009 was kind to the Society and we have many people to thank for that. Superpetz of Altoona generously donated a 40 gallon reptile enclosure for our Argentina Black and White Tegu. Also, a big thanks goes out to The Alley Popper for donating placemats to be used as substrate in some of our enclosures. CPZS would like to thank Paula Thornbloom of The Child Development and Family Council of Centre County for donating a desk for our new building. We would also like to thank Dennis Albright for graciously allowing us to use the building on his property as our new home. A special thanks also goes to Adam Albright and Kayle Boob, seniors at West Branch High School. For their senior project they sold Glory's Fudge as a fundraiser for CPZS. For those of you wanting a sneak peak at our new facility, we will be having an Open House on March 6. You can learn more about the society and meet our animals. URGENT! Philipsburg, STOLEN Baby Mini Colt!

EXTREMELY URGENT! This mini colt was stolen near the Philipsburg/Morrisdale area (central PA). He is not weaned yet and will not survive without proper care. CPZS Seeking Volunteers for Docent Program

Dear CPZS Mailing List Subscribers! Do you enjoy wildlife? Are you interested in enriching other's awareness of conservation? Would you like to expand your knowledge of animals? The CPZS is creating a vibrant docent program to help provide the community with educational opportunities to learn about wildlife and nature conservation. CPZS reaches over 1,000 adults and children every year with its educational programs and travel exhibits. Upon completion of training, docents will participate in and assist CPZS with a variety of educational experiences and community outreaches. The Central PA Zoological Society asks its docents for a commitment of time and effort, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude. In return, we offer the benefits of expanding your knowledge while providing a rewarding experience in a warm and friendly environment. The initial one-year docent training program will teach animal care and handling, enclosure maintenance, and natural history interpretation. This volunteer program (designed for adults ages 18 and up) will provide an enjoyable wildlife experience for both the public and participating volunteers. CPZS Update September 2009

Dear CPZS Mailing List Subscribers, As you may be aware by now, the property deal in Houtzdale that CPZS was working on has fallen through. These difficult economic times have been a challenge for us, but we will continue to press on. We do have an alternate plan where our Board Vice President will construct a small heated shed on his property and he will rent out use of the facility to CPZS to house our animals and supplies. We are very grateful that we do have this option to fall back on and the facility is currently under construction. CPZS is a 100% volunteer organization and is funded primarily by individual donations.
